Dr Lígia Teixeira has been conferred the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences

Professor Joanna Richardson (De Montfort University) and Dr Lígia Teixeira have been conferred the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences following nomination by the Housing Studies Association (HSA). This award recognises individuals’ contribution to the use of social science for public benefit.

In response to the announcement, Professor Philip Brown, Chair of the HSA said:

“It is superb news that the Academy of Social Sciences have conferred the award of Fellow on both Ligia and Jo. They have each made huge contributions to housing studies in their respective fields as well as wider contributions to social sciences. These two candidates have made significant wider contributions to society in their pursuit of housing justice on behalf of marginalised communities. On behalf of the Housing Studies Association executive committee I would like to congratulate them on their achievement”

Professor Joanna Richardson commented:

“It is such an honour to have been conferred Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences. I was thrilled that my colleagues in the Housing Studies Association nominated me for my contribution to housing and social science for public benefit. The Housing Studies Association supports the intellectual endeavour of academics and practitioners to contribute impactful research ideas for societal benefit and I am proud to be part of this learned society. We live in an uncertain and complex world – it is vital that we continue to work together to support the HSA and its members to help deliver much-needed safe, secure and affordable homes.”

Dr Lígia Teixeira said:

“I am absolutely delighted to join the ranks of the Academy of Social Sciences. I am very proud to have this honour bestowed on me, and to join the the ranks of other women and men working hard to champion the use of social sciences for the public benefit in the UK. Thank you to the HSA, which play a crucial role in the promotion and visibility of housing studies in policy and practice, for noticing my contribution. Creating an effective housing system is a more pressing priority than ever before. While there is nothing new about the foundational role of housing. What is new is that better uses of data and evidence can help create a housing system that leaves no one behind. So as a Fellow I will continue to fully support the HSA which is trying a most worthwhile task needed today.”
