Dr Mihretab Melesse Salasibew

Director of Evidence

Dr Mihretab Melesse Salasibew leads the evidence function at the Centre for Homelessness Impact (CHI), one of the UK’s What Works Centres, working with government and local authorities to generate and apply evidence on what works to prevent and end homelessness.

An epidemiologist by training, he specialises in impact evaluation, evidence synthesis, and Test and Learn approaches to support practical system change. His work focuses on translating data and evidence generated through rigorous research into actionable insights for policy and implementation.

Prior to joining CHI, Mihretab led major evaluation portfolios across Africa, UK and Asia for over 20 years, working closely with governments, funders, and development partners to strengthen evidence use in policy and programme design. He has published widely on epidemiology, maternal and child health, implementation research, behaviour change, and evidence-based practice.

His current interests include prevention, cost-per-unit and value-for-money analysis to inform commissioning decisions, and the use of AI to strengthen evidence synthesis and impact evaluation, particularly in making research, learning, and decision-making faster, more scalable, and more actionable while ensuring equity and safety.
