Dr Rebekah Widdowfield
Rebekah is Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, an educational charity established in 1783 for the ‘advancement of learning and useful knowledge’. Its contemporary mission remains the same – the deployment of knowledge and understanding for public benefit. A researcher by background, Rebekah spent fourteen years working in housing and homelessness research initially in academia and subsequently in the Scottish Government. Rebekah became a senior civil servant in 2008 in which capacity she undertook roles covering rural and environmental science and analysis, social research (as Chief Researcher), higher education and housing before leaving the civil service to join the RSE in 2017.
